From PWRDF re: Aid to Canada's Indigenous People - Pandemic-focused

Support PWRDF’s Indigenous COVID emergency response
Dear Friends,

In consultation with Archbishop Mark MacDonald and the Primate, Archbishop Linda Nicholls, PWRDF has been monitoring the situation in Indigenous communities across Canada as they tackle the pandemic. PWRDF has responded with $50,000 to support northern Indigenous communities coping with recent COVID surges.

The Indigenous People’s Alliance of Manitoba-North (IPAM-N) will use the funds to purchase and distribute face masks and supplies for cleaning and disinfecting.

Recently, the Tataskweyak Cree Nation in Northern Manitoba declared a state of emergency due to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant. “Our health staff are tired and overwhelmed,” wrote Bishop Larry Beardy, the Indigenous Suffragan Bishop of Mishamikoweesh’s Northern Manitoba Area Mission. “The cases are exploding in our communities. Please pray for the sick, and all in the communities.”

You can support this response with an online donation. You can also call us at 416-822-9083 or leave a voicemail toll-free at 1-866-308-7973 and we will return your call, or send a cheque to PWRDF, 80 Hayden Street, 3rd Floor, Toronto, ON, M4Y 3G2. Please mark "Indigenous COVID response" in the memo field.

Reflection for Any Time

From the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu. May we all be guilty of 'good deeds' in this tumultuous time.

For Your Consideration II -- and Prayer...

Lest you think this is all a 'sham' or 'nonsense'...to quote Dr. Hinshaw from this video: "We've never seen this transmission before." Stay safe, stay in prayer, remember that "the church" is NOT a brick-and-mortar building. We are here to pray for, care for and help each other as best we can. Do what you can, stay safe, pray for our governments -- County, municipal, provincial and federal -- our heath care providers (many of whom have been exposed and are off sick or in isolation) and for all who refuse to acknowledge the reality of this challenge.

Ch-ch-ch-changes...re: Worship Services

Here's what the current COVID "numbers" look like in our little corner of Alberta

Source HERE

Today our Archbishop announced a suspension of in-person services for January 16, 23, and 30 -- with a review and further information to be provided the week of January 23.  For those who would like tor read a copy of the Archbishop's letter, click HERE.

There will be a service of Morning Prayer at St. Cyprian's parish on Sunday, January 9, 2022; after that there may be recorded services for a few weeks.  The schedule has yet to be determined.

Please keep our incumbent, Rev. Robert Sears, the Parish Councils and the Lay Ministers of the parishes of St. Cyprian's, Lacombe and St. John's, Olds, and all involved with service prep and excution in your prayers as we all continue to discern what is best practice for the health, safety and support of all our parishioners -- and the wider communities in which we serve.  Thank you.

Reflection for the Eve of Ephiphany: Twelfth Night

Twelfth Cake for Twelfth Night
Recipe: BBC Good Food

Today is the Twelfth Day of Christmas, and tonight, as the sun sets, is Twelfth Night...easing into Ephiphany.  Dean Robert Willis offers reflections, observations and anecdotes about Twelfth Night, its origins and festivals -- and the Gift that was given by God for all the world.

For something to enjoy with your cake, it's appropriate to make and serve wassail...which in this wintry weather would be a fine way to warm hearts and spirits!

May your Twelfth Night be blessed! 😊
