Readings for Sunday, April 24, 2022

Acts 5:27-32

Psalm 118:14-29

Revelation 1:4-8

John 20:19-31

We continue to pray for the people of Ukraine.  At noon today the bells at St. Cyprian's will be rung, and there will be a short time of prayer.

God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

*RE: "Low Sunday": Wikipedia has this information:
Another name traditionally given to this day in the English language is Low Sunday. The word "low" may serve to contrast it with the "high" festival of Easter on the preceding Sunday. Or, the word "low" may be a corruption of the Latin word laudes, the first word of a sequence used in the historical Sarum Rite.[7]

PWRDF April Update re: Aid for Ukraine

April Update

PWRDF has announced that it is now working with a new partner - "Initiative E+".  Money given to it will be used for Ukrainian civilians injured in the war, as well as Ukrainian military personnel.

Since February 24, at the beginning of the conflict, there has been an acute need for medical equipment and supplies to care for those who have been injured.  This situation has gone up tenfold.  The reality is, of those wounded, 75% are civilians.

By Friday, April 1, PWRDF has now received nearly $400,000 for humanitarian relief and aid for our Ukrainian sisters and brothers.  In March, $100,000 was given to ACT Alliance, in partnership with Hungarian Interchurch Aid.  Another $50,000 was further given to HelpAge Canada which is responding to seniors fleeing Ukraine to a safe haven in Moldova.  In addition, PWRDF is pleased to announce that it is giving $62,000 for medical supplies to Initiative E+ who will be providing care to those in the Kyiv region as well as in Eastern Ukraine.  The money will be used for the following:

- Medical equipment for those hospitals which are caring for many injured people

- Medicine for people in Eastern Ukraine as well as in Kyiv and in the surrounding areas

- Ukrainian first responders and military personnel who require PPE and medical supplies

Please continue to pray and to engage in almsgiving for the Ukrainian people in the name of Christ.  We are His hands and His feet to care for others.  May you be blessed to be a blessing to those in need.*

Our First Online Auction Fundraiser!

That's right!  St. Cyprian's Anglican Church in Lacombe is going "high tech" with its first ever online fundraising silent auction!

As we describe in the introduction to our fundraiser...

St. Cyprian's has been active in Lacombe for 125 years. We strive to be a welcoming community that is empowered by God to grow in faith and share enthusiastically the fellowship of the church in the world.

We're raising funds to enable us to keep up our work in the community, which includes supporting and connecting with our elderly members, participating with other churches in aiding those in need, and supporting youth through contributions to local programs.

The bidding begins on Easter Monday, April 18, 2022 at 9 a.m. and runs through Tuesday evening, April 26, 2022 at 6 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time.

Though there are still donated items coming in, you can get a preview of what's on offer, with values, starting bids and bidding increments by visiting our auction site HERE.  Make notes on what you see that's of greatest interest, so that you're ready to place your bid(s) when the virtual doors open!

You'll notice that most of the items are available only for local pick-up/delivery -- but there are some that would be available to have mailed/shipped.  Winning bidders would have to work out the expense of that with the donor.

Join in the fun!  To the highest bidders go the prizes!

Thank you to all our donors, to the volunteers behind the scenes rounding up donors' photos and information, handling the technology and monitoring the process as it moves ahead.

And thanks to all who support us with bids, with publicity and with prayers.  May this be fun and a blessing for us and for our community.  😊
