Service for Sunday, March 19, 2023: Morning Prayer in Your "Jammies"

NOTE: for reasons unknown, the service for March 12 remained in draft form -- until today.  It has now been published, with apologies for the oversight.  And here is the Service for TODAY, March 19, 2023 -- the Fourth Sunday in Lent.  May both services bless your day.  😊

Today's online service of Morning Prayer is provided by Rev. Robert Sears on behalf of the Anglican Parish of St. John's, Olds, Alberta.

Rev. Robert's commentary on his sermon:

"The Gospel is John 9 and the man born blind. Today's Gospel is about blindness, both physical and moral.
We begin with the disciples. They share a common belief. When they see a man who was born blind, they asked Jesus who's fault was it? Their assumption was that the man's physical disability was a punishment -- so someone had to be to blame.
Jesus decided the turn their prejudice on its head. His view was that neither the man nor his parents were to blame for congenital blindness. But now Jesus would use the man's condition to be a sign of God's good works and an object lesson on moral blindness."

Readings for Sunday, March 19, 2023 -- the 4th Sunday of Lent
1 Samuel 16: 1-13
Psalm 23
Ephesians 5:8-14
The Gospel of John 9: 1-41.

Service for Sunday, March 12, 2023: Morning Prayer in Your "Jammies"

Today's online service of Morning Prayer is provided by Rev. Robert Sears on behalf of the Anglican Parish of St. Cyprian's, Lacombe, Alberta.

May it bless your day. 😊

Rev. Robert has offered this commentary on his sermon:

"Our readings today bring together different types of responses to the question of whether the Lord is among us. Our Exodus reading it the classic example of tempting the Lord, demanding him to answer. The psalm, by contrast, answers in a loud affirmative song in worship and praise. The epistle boasts in suffering. The apostle Paul found the Holy Spirit real and present during his struggles, so much so that he essentially framed a philosophy of spiritual resilience. Our Gospel gives us Jesus' conversation with the woman at the well. She was so thrilled by her encounter and discussion with Jesus that she ran to bring others to meet him.
I want to review these responses as a way of showing that an affirmative answer to the question of God's presence comes in many forms. Is the Lord among us or not? Yes. He is with us in our despair, our worship, our struggles, and our questioning."

Readings for Sunday, March 12, 2023, the Third Sunday of Lent:
Exodus 17: 1-7
Psalm 95
Romans 5: 1-11
The Gospel of John 4:5-42.
