National Indigenous Day of Prayer

National Indigenous Day of Prayer

Wednesday, June 21

Creator God,
from you every family in heaven and earth takes its name.
You have rooted and grounded us
in your covenant love,
and empowered us by your Spirit
to speak the truth in love,
and to walk in your way towards justice and wholeness.
Mercifully grant that your people,
journeying together in partnership,
may be strengthened and guided
to help one another to grow into the full stature  of Christ,
who is our light and our life. Amen

Please visit the Anglican Church of Canada Website for resources for honoring this day.

A Sermon Reflection: The Calling of Matthew

This sermon reflection was recorded by Rev. Robert Sears on Sunday, June 11, at the Anglican Parish of St. John's, Olds. AB, and uploaded earlier this week. May it bless your day. 😊

Rev. Robert's podcast description:
Homily on Matthew 9:9--13
Pentecost 2A June 11, 2023
The Pharisees had a problem with Jesus celebrating Matthew's new vocation with Matthew's former colleagues and friends, but Jesus had three replies: a proverbial saying, a rebuttal, and his mission statement.

Liturgical Public Speaking

Are you a lay person who has volunteered -- or wants to volunteer -- to read Scripture in your local parish church?  Are you someone who's been asked to lead the Prayers of the People, or give a homily, or do special readings during Advent or Lent?  This course will improve your speaking ability, give you a boost of confidence in your abilities, and it's fun besides (ask your Editor how she knows!)  It's available on Zoom for those who can't get to it in person.

Calgary School of Discipleship

Upcoming Course

Liturgical Public Speaking -  June 17 @ 1:00 pm Mountain Time   Instructors: Rev. Canon James Robinson and Judith Robinson  Location: St. Augustine, Lethbridge and on Zoom.  Cost: $35 per person.

This Workshop is designed to help both lay and clergy people become adept in public speaking while leading and/or participating in public worship. Students will explore what is needed to speak and read effectively in public, but specifically within the context of worship and in the role of reading sacred scripture, and praying liturgical and sacramental text. The course will also cover practical matters, including instruction about appropriate use of vestments, the use of technology and give students opportunity to practice and develop their skills and confidence.

To register for this course,

Knit In Public!

Knit in Public Event

Saturday, June 17 - 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

To celebrate "Worldwide Knit in Public Day" (who knew there was such a thing?!?), knitters at Holy Cross, Calgary are invited to bring a knitting project, a lawn chair, a hat and a water bottle, and join us in front of the main doors of the church to work on prayer shawls or a personal project. If you wish to crochet or do hand work, you are welcome, too.

This activity will not only give knitters an opportunity to work on something wonderful and build community, but also offer outreach to anyone passing by as we highlight our Prayer Shawl ministry.

We also challenge other parishes to hold their own "Knit In Public" events and we'd love to see pictures! For more information about this project, please contact Carol Tubman (ctubman@shaw.ca) or tel: (403) 277-9104.

If the weather is inclement, the event will be held inside.

Knitters at St. Cyprian's Parish, Lacombe, please note: If you can't get to Calgary, do not fear.  Find a spot near you -- on your front lawn or in a local park, set yourself up with your knitting (or crochet) and get comfortable -- and knit!

Your Intrepid Blog/Facebook Group Editor (Margaret B.), will be attending a class at Olds College on June 17 -- it's Fibre Week at Olds -- but you can bet she'll have knitting with her, and will be visiting the vendors for their yarn, their fibre (spinning), and accoutrements for all who knit, crochet, spin and/or weave!  Perhaps she'll encounter some fibre-crafters from St. John's Parish in Olds while she's there!
